Jānis Katlaps is a photographer and cinematographer based in Jūrmala, Latvia.

Although his professional photography practice is a more recent focus, Jānis has spent years working across the television and film industries as a cinematographer, editor, and live TV director. His photographic work is primarily created on analog film and explores urban narratives, with a particular interest in history, overlooked details, and unconventional forms.

Throughout his career, Jānis has contributed to numerous film and television productions. He was nominated for the Latvian National Film Award, Lielais Kristaps, for Best Cinematography in the Documentary category.

Jānis holds a Bachelor's degree in Audiovisual Media Arts. He has further developed his creative practice through the Latvian Art Directors Club (LADC) Advertising Course and studies at the ISSP School of Photography.
